Since October 7, 2023, there has been a propaganda campaign to portray Palestine and its residents as a danger to Queer people. Juxtaposed against a rosy image of Israel as a supposed LGBTQIA+ haven. The horrifying image of an IDF soldier holding a pride flag during the middle of a genocide is one example of this.
This is a dangerous distraction!
Oppressors frequently weaponize equality to create division in the united struggle of all oppressed peoples everywhere. Any attempt to use the treatment of LGBTQIA+ persons as an excuse for a genocide it erases the voices of the Queer Palestinians while holding Israel’s and America’s pinkwashing* up as a beacon of righteousness.
It is our duty to amplify the voices that are being silenced and memorialize the voices that have been lost. We will not allow the oppressor to wage a war on our behalf.
From Stonewall to Palestine, There is no Pride in genocide!
[*pinkwashing (n): an instance or practice of acknowledging and promoting the civil liberties of the LGBTQIA+ community, but superficially, as a ploy to divert attention from allegiances and activities that are in fact hostile to such liberties, i.e. genocide.]
